Historic Sotterley has launched “The Kane Family: Slavery to Freedom at Sotterley,” a collection of writings by genealogist, researcher, and historian Agnes Kane Callum, compiled and edited by author Dave G. Brown.

Historic Sotterley will open its grounds to the public for its Day of Unity and Healing on August 23, 2025, in recognition of the UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Its Abolition.
Sotterley Unveils Middle Passage Marker
At Historic Sotterley’s Day of Unity and Healing, a new Middle Passage Marker was unveiled. The marker commemorates the lives of those impacted by the transatlantic slave trade, and in particular the enslaved who came directly to Sotterley aboard the Generous Jenny.
Sotterley to Celebrate Day of Unity
Historic Sotterley’s annual Day of Unity and Healing will be held from 10am to 12:30pm August 19, 2023. This year’s theme is “Beyond Color: The Power of Connection.”
