President Joe Biden is set to tap ADM Lisa Franchetti to lead the Navy, which would make her the first woman to serve as a member of the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform routine maintenance on the MD 4 (Governor Thomas Johnson) Bridge in Calvert and St. Mary’s counties starting at 10 p.m. Monday, July 24, weather permitting. Lanes will open to traffic no later than 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, July 25.

F-35: Filling Gaps after Turkey’s Exit
A new Germany-based F-35 fuselage factory near Düsseldorf is expected to begin operations in 2025. It will replace a factory previously operated by Turkey. The new factory will fill a void in the supply chain resulting from the US removing Turkey and its companies from the F-35 program.
Navy Test Pilot School Graduates 34
Graduation for the US Naval Test Pilot School’s Class 162 was held last month. Thirty-four students completed the 11-month course of instruction and received their designations as engineering developmental test pilots, test flight officers, and test engineers.
Four Earn SMECO Scholarships
Four high school seniors who live in the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative service area have been awarded scholarships. They are Zoe McCall, Lauren McNair, Ivy Phillips, and William Spruill.
