Navy Recruiting Rebounds, FY24 Goals Surpassed

The US Navy says it has surpassed its recruiting goals for fiscal 2024, which ended Oct. 1. This comes after the service had failed to meet its accession targets for the first time ever last year. At one point, officials had projected missing recruiting targets by roughly 6,700 for FY24.

Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released a plan calling for an additional $55 billion above the fiscal 2025 defense spending caps imposed under last year’s debt ceiling deal.

Century-Old Briggs & Stratton Files Bankruptcy

Small engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton Corp., founded in Milwaukee in 1908, has filed for bankruptcy protection. Briggs was the world’s largest manufacturer of small gasoline engines; it has sold more than 125 million.
