Hoyer: Jobs Report Is ‘Warning Sign’ for US Economy

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today on the November jobs report:
“The November jobs report released [December 16] is a warning sign for the American economy. Only 64,000 jobs were added in November, and unemployment grew to 4.6% – the highest level since the pandemic. Black Americans have been particularly hard hit, with Black unemployment now at 8.3%. Additionally, the number of Americans who have been unemployed for more than six months swelled to 1.9 million last month, which is 200,000 more than a year ago. The number of unemployed people last month was 700,000 more than in November 2024.
“And yet, Donald Trump has the audacity to say he has earned an ‘A+++++’ on the economy. He describes Americans’ affordability crisis as a ‘fake narrative.’ Trump can deny reality all he wants, but that won’t change the sorry state of our economy. Only abandoning his devastating economic agenda can do that. With tariffs raising costs, attacks on Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act putting health care out of reach for millions of Americans, and trillions of dollars of tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires exploding the national debt, America’s economic carnage will continue so long as Trump and his MAGA Republican majorities in Congress stay on their current course.”
Congressman Hoyer is chair of the Regional Leadership Council.
