Healthy St. Mary’s Highlights Church Food Pantry

The Church of the Ascension food pantry in Lexington Park is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 11am. The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership highlighted the group’s work in a recent newsletter, providing information from Feed St. Mary’s.
The church’s food pantry is operated entirely by volunteers who give their time to serve the community. The food pantry uses a client-choice model, which means families select their own groceries rather than receiving a prepackaged box or bag.
Volunteers help guide families through the pantry, ensuring everyone receives a balanced selection.
The model reminds the volunteers that the ministry is not just about distributing food, it’s about serving people with compassion, respect, and care.
Families served continue to remain steady each distribution day. Volunteers keep shelves stocked and assist families with kindness and care.
Donations from the congregation and community make this all possible.
Most-needed items include loaf bread, canned meat, juice boxes, single package oatmeal, ramen, Vienna sausages, rice/potato envelopes side dish, kids’ snacks, flip-top canned items for homeless, toothpaste, and toilet paper.
Those interested in donating should call 301-863-8551.
Church of the Ascension is at 21641 Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. MD.
