SlackWater: Cedar Point Erased to Make Way for Base
In the late 1930s and early ’40s, rumors had circulated that the military was interested in the Cedar Point peninsula in St. Mary’s County. But days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, government officials and surveyors began the process of condemning the land. The patchwork of farms and settlements would soon be smoothed over to make way for the Navy.
Zwerdling to Perform at Ward Virts Concert
Baritone Antony Zwerdling and pianist Stephen Johnson will perform at 3 pm May 13 as part of the Inaugural Festivities for CSM President Dr. Maureen Murphy. The concert will be held at the College of Southern Maryland’s Prince Frederick Campus. Both men are CSM music faculty members.
Air Force Orders 1-Day Safety Stand Down
In the wake of a series of troubling aircraft mishaps and crashes ― several of which have been fatal ― Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein has ordered a one-day safety stand down for all flying and maintenance wings when the service conducts safety reviews.

The Navy says it will re-establishment the US Second Fleet which will be responsible for naval forces along the East Coast and in the northern Atlantic Ocean.

F-35B Forced to Land, Leaking Fuel
An F-35B was forced to land after the fuel light attached to its 14,000-gallon fuel tank came on. The jet was reported leaking fuel when it landed and that the engine ran out of fuel before the aircraft came to a stop.
