SMECO Employees Donate to Center for Children
Employees at Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative donated $55,000 to the Center for Children, a nonprofit dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse in the region. The money was raised at SMECO’s annual golf outing in September.

TPP Opens Scholarship Competition
TPP Pathways Scholarship application for 2022-2023 will remain open until January 31, 2023. The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) Pathways Scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan on attending the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and majoring in engineering to support STEM workforce development at NAWCAD.

DoD $1.4B Short on Next F-35 Contract
The Pentagon is $1.4 billion short for its next major F-35 contract with Lockheed. If more money isn’t found, the pending three-year contract, valued at as much as $30 billion, will yield fewer aircraft for the US’s costliest weapons program, which is now estimated at $412 billion.
LP Health Hub Temporarily Closes Drive-Thru
The drive-thru operations at the St. Mary’s Health Department’s Health Hub in Lexington Park will temporarily close November 16-18 for maintenance. The Health Hub is at 21625 Great Mills Road. Normal drive-thru operations at the Health Hub will resume on Monday, November 21.
