Alvey in 3-Way Commission President Race

Roy Alvey is one of three men running for the Republican nomination for St. Mary’s County Commissioner President. Mr. Alvey submitted the following post about himself and his qualifications for the position.

I am a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, and my wife Rose and I live in Valley Lee. I graduated from Chopticon High School. I am a veteran and served with the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division.

For 38 years I worked for Verizon Telephone Company full time and worked 20 years part time for Safeway Stores as the night manager. I am retired now, and when elected I will be a full-time commissioner.

Some of my community service involvement includes: Little League coach. PTA member. Christmas in April. St. George’s Hundred. St. Mary’s County Public Schools Ethics Committee member. Board of Commissioners for the Housing Authority. Board of Commissioners for the Metropolitan Commission. St.  Mary’s County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy. St. Mary’s County Government Citizens Academy. Republican Central Committee. Republican Women of St. Mary’s County. Republican Club. Member of American Legion Post 221. Member of Veterans of Helen.

Some of my priorities: Lower taxes and fees. No cannabis facilities in residential neighborhoods. No data centers in St. Mary’s County. Public Safety. Education. Housing. Programs for youth.

I will always be transparent, accessible, and accountable.
