Pax Partnership Donates to Robotics Program

The Patuxent Partnership is always looking for ways to support science, technology, math, and engineering programs in the Southern Maryland area. Bonnie Green, executive director of The Patuxent Partnership praises robotics as a way to engage for local students in STEM activities. TPP made a recent donation to the College of Southern Maryland robotics program as further proof of that support.
The Patuxent Partnership made a donation of $3,000 to the College of Southern Maryland robotics program, a priority of the college that has grown considerably over the past several years.
CSM hosted its first robotics competition in 2006 with just two teams from local high schools. Now, the college hosts robotics competitions that include students in elementary, middle, and high schools, and the teams come from both public and private schools in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.
These College of Southern Maryland competitions are qualifiers that send teams to state, national, and world competitions.
The donation was made recently by The Patuxent Partnership board member and retired US Navy Rear Adm. Steve Eastburg, TPP Executive Director Bonnie Green, and TPP Board President Gene Townsend, to CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried.
The Patuxent Partnership works with government, industry, and academia on programs and initiatives designed to support workforce development in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), to host programs of interest to the Navy and the broader community, and to support research and technology development.
“Robotics is one of the most popular STEM programs in the nation. Whether it is VEX, LEGO, FRC, Botball, or some other division, having a viable robotics program in every school should be our goal if we are serious about growing our future STEM workforce,” Ms. Green said.
