Hoyer Marks 25th Anniversary of Judy Centers

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer joined educators and elected officials in Maryland to celebrate 25 years of Judy Centers in the state. The event was held November 6 at Rosa L. Parks Elementary School in Hyattsville to honor the visionary leadership and legacy of Mr. Hoyer’s late wife and early childhood advocate Judith P. Hoyer.
“My late wife, Judy, would have been so proud of all that we have accomplished since the first center opened. It is an honor to continue her mission to boost school readiness in our communities,” Rep. Hoyer said.
Named after Judy Hoyer, Judy Center Early Learning Hubs are school-based programs that promote school readiness by connecting families to early education, health, and support services. There are currently 51 Judy Centers serving approximately 18,000 children across all 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City.
The first Judy Center in Charles County celebrated its 25th anniversary in October. The center, housed at Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School, opened in fall 2000 after state lawmakers enacted the Judith P. Hoyer Early Child Care and Education Enhancement Program earlier that year.
Congressman Hoyer is chair of the Regional Leadership Council.
