Hoyer: Solution Clear. Move FBI to Greenbelt

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer and members of Team Maryland reiterated their support for moving the FBI headquarters from Washington, DC, to Prince George’s County.

Earlier this month, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel “recognized what everyone, including his predecessors, have known for decades: the J. Edgar Hoover Building is unsafe, unworthy, and unaccommodating of the FBI’s vital national security and law enforcement mission. We agree with his statement that ‘if you’re going to come work at the premier law enforcement agency in the world, we’re going to give you a building that is commensurate with that,”’ the lawmakers said.

Hoyer joined with Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, and Reps. Glenn Ivey, Kweisi Mfume, Jamie Raskin, Sarah Elfreth, Johnny Olszewski and April McClain Delaney to issue the May 16 statement that supports moving the headquarters to Greenbelt.

“The solution is clear, and the decision to move the headquarters to the site in Greenbelt, Maryland, was final,” the lawmakers said. “This site was selected based on a thorough, objective process examining cost, construction timeline, transportation access, community impact, and the FBI’s mission requirements.

“Team Maryland remains committed to providing the world’s premier law enforcement agency with the world’s premier law enforcement facility. If the Trump administration truly shares that goal, it will work with us to proceed on this project.”

Congressman Hoyer is chair of the Regional Leadership Council.
