Dr. O’Brien has established herself as a distinguished leader in behavioral health, since 2019 serving as the chief executive officer of Walden Wise. Her expertise in substance use disorder has been instrumental in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and expanding its impact. Under Dr. O’Brien’s leadership, Walden Wise has continued to provide comprehensive care and support to individuals and families affected by substance use and mental health challenges.
Leveraging more than 40 years of experience, Dr. O’Brien was the chief executive officer of Walden Sierra Behavioral Health from 1975 to 2019.
During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in developing the state’s only comprehensive publicly funded program offering various levels of care. Dr. O’Brien’s academic background laid a strong foundation for her career achievements. Dr. O’Brien holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from La Salle University. Passionate about shifting perceptions of behavioral health into the broader health care landscape, Dr. O’Brien remains steadfast about focusing on it as brain health rather than just behavioral health.
