“The lights are up, animals are ready to meet everyone,” say organizers of “A Quiet Flat Iron Farm Christmas.” Plenty of new surprises in store. The holiday events at the Great Mills farm opened on November 23.
Here’s How to Help St. Mary’s Caring
St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen in Great Mills is accepting donations. Last year, St. Mary’s Caring served more than 125,000 meals. The soup kitchen is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, and offers children, struggling families, low-income elderly, the disabled, the homeless, the unemployed, and the working poor a well-balanced breakfast and lunch.

UPDATE: The rain date for the Great Mills Trading Post’s Battle by the Bay Truck and Tractor Pull at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown has been activated. The pull will now be held on Sunday, July 30. Gates open at noon and the pull begins at 2pm.

Great Mills Trading Post Moves
After 53 years at the same location, Great Mills Trading Post has moved, across the road, to make space for the state to improve traffic flow along MD 5 between Great Mills Road and the Flat Iron/Indian Bridge intersection.
Southhampton Slated for New Roads, Water & Sewer
St. Mary’s County and the Metropolitan Commission will be displaying their plans Sept. 29, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm, for a revitalization project in Lexington Park’s Southhampton Neighborhood, across Rt 235 from Pax River. The project includes reconstruction of roads, sidewalks, driveway aprons, storm drainage system, new stormwater management facilities, and improvements to the public water and sewer systems.
Help to Connect to Sewer & Water Available
New funding programs assisting with connections to public sewer and water are now available through MetCom. Bay Fund Restoration funding through St. Mary’s Health Department is also available.
MetCom Internship Program Enjoys Success
Five interns have been spending their time outside of class getting real-world experience in the working world at the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission.
