Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative worked with the tri-county school systems to honor 20 educators with Outstanding Teacher awards for leadership in the fields of mathematics, science, technology, and engineering.
With Library ‘Storywalks,’ Kids Can Stroll and Read
Patrons at the Leonardtown and Charlotte Hall libraries will soon be able to stroll through a series of outdoor reading stations for children. The “storywalks” are set to open May 11.
35 Teams Compete in SMECO Math Challenge
The 2024 Elementary Mathematics Challenge Competition, co-sponsored by the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, for fourth- and fifth-grade students, was held from school sites April 4.

Easter Egg Festival Set @ Fairgrounds Rain or Shine
The annual Easter Egg Festival will be held March 23 at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. The rain-or-shine event will be held from 11:30am to 4pm.
SMECO Announces Richards’ Resignation
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors recently announced that James A. Richards has resigned his seat on the Board as of February 19, 2024. SMECO Extends Deadline for Scholarship Applications
The deadline to apply for Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative scholarships has been extended. Students have until Monday, April 15, 2024, to apply.
MATHCOUNTS Marks 30th Anniversary
Southern Maryland’s annual MATHCOUNTS competition, sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, marked its 30th anniversary on February 3. More than 150 students from 18 schools competed.
