Every year, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative conducts its members’ meeting to elect directors and vote on bylaw changes. As a member, you have the right to vote. The 2025 meeting will begin at 6pm August 20 at the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has appointed nine members to the 2025 Nominating Committee set to meet May 7, 2025, at SMECO’s headquarters in Hughesville.

SMECO to Compete in Lineman Rodeo
Mark your calendars. Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative linemen will compete in the Gaff-n-Go Rodeo to be held May 16-17, 2025, at Meadow Event Park in Doswell, VA.
SMECO Scholarship Application Deadline April 1
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative will award four $2,500 scholarships to local high school students who excel in their endeavors and show promise in their chosen field of study. Students have until April 1, 2025, to apply.
SMECO Sponsors Student Math Contest
The regional MATHCOUNTS competition marked its 31st anniversary earlier this month. More than 150 students from 18 schools gathered to test their math skills at the event sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative and the Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s public school systems.
Plenty to Sing About for COSMIC Symphony
COSMIC Symphony’s next concert, “Song & Dance,” will feature the vocal talents of its 2024 Young Artist Competition winner Ellyanna Tyson, and a classical program. Dates February 22 and 23, 2025.
SMECO Employees Donate to Local Hospitals
Employees of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative donated $60,000 to three Southern Maryland hospitals.
