Kappa Delta Pi Comes to CSM
Students at the College of Southern Maryland who are majoring in education now can aspire to be a part of Kappa Delta Pi, the 40,000-member International Honor Society in Education. CSM has become the first community college in Maryland to be awarded a chapter of the society, and has announced the induction of 19 people into its membership.
CSM Hosts Free Leonardtown Concerts
Concerts will be performed at the College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown campus as part of the Twilight Performance Series. The concerts will include Coastline on July 26. Performances begin at 6:45 pm.
New CSM Vice President Focuses on Diversity
The College of Southern Maryland’s new vice president of Institutional Equity and Diversity Office, Danelle McClanahan, has a vision for CSM, in which the diversity of the faculty reflects the diversity of the students. In that vision, the college will expand and enhance programs that help all students, foster inclusion, and create students who are ready for a global career market.
History Comes Alive at CSM’s Chautauqua
Chautauqua 2016 at the College of Southern Maryland’s La Plata campus includes interactive, family-friendly presentations July 12-14 on Duke Ellington, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Ernest Hemingway.
Twilight Series Returns to CSM
The College of Southern Maryland will again host free, family-friendly entertainment on the La Plata, Leonardtown and Prince Frederick campuses. Guests can expect to be entertained by national and local jazz, rock and military bands, and CSM’s Children’s Theatre as well as by Chautauqua’s historical portrayals.
Two Earn TPP Engineering Scholarships
The 2016 TPP Pathways to Engineering scholarship recipients are James Grizzle of Chopticon High School and Allan Li of Great Mills High School. Both young men have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement while attending high school and have chosen to pursue careers in engineering.
Transfer Process Gets Easier
The articulation agreement between the College of Southern Maryland and Florida Institute of Technology has been revised to create a seamless transition for students in CSM’s associate degree programs in arts and sciences, general students business administration, or business administration-technical management to the bachelor degree in logistics management at Florida Tech.
Students Tout Dual Enrollment
US Education Secretary John King Jr. and Under Secretary Ted Mitchell visited the La Plata campus of the College of Southern Maryland in May to talk to students who participate in the college’s dual enrollment program in a roundtable.
CSM Makes a Big Splash
It wasn’t a wellness center. It was a tropical paradise. On May 7, the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown campus Wellness and Aquatics Center was transformed for the second annual Splash for Scholarships fundraiser, and more than $80,990 through cash and in-kind donations was raised in support of student scholarships, exceeding last year’s total of $73,225.
