The head coach of College of Southern Maryland’s volleyball team, Ashley Wolfe, has been recognized by the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference as a Coach of the Year for 2016.

As artists were capturing Southern Maryland scenes in the fall at the Solomons Plein Air Festival, presented by Avian, patrons were buying their favorites pieces of artwork. Proceeds from those sales have been given to six community organizations, including a $3,000 donation to the College of Southern Maryland Foundation for the Dennis Lake Smith Art Scholarship.

Winter commencement at the College of Southern Maryland is set for Jan. 19, 2017, at the La Plata Campus, and Roz Plater, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Plater was most recently a freelance reporter for WJLA ABC 7 in Washington, DC.
Making some energy-saving changes on campus garnered a big payout for the College of Southern Maryland. CSM received a $133,000 rebate from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Business Solutions program after the college completed retrofit lighting projects in buildings at the La Plata, Prince Frederick, and Leonardtown campuses.

A free information session on CSM’s new drone course will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the College of Southern Maryland La Plata Campus in the Center for Business and Industry.
College of Southern Maryland students who have applied for admission for the spring semester are invited to take advantage of a Super Saturday event this month Jan. 21. The Jan. 7 Super Saturday event will not be held; all CSM campuses will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 7, due to impending weather forecasts.
Eileen Bildman of Hollywood is the newest member of the College of Southern Maryland Foundation Board of Directors. She will serve a five-year term.

After only a few days into the New Year, the College of Southern Maryland gears up for another busy semester.
Students at the College of Southern Maryland went far beyond their classrooms and into the community during Dr. Mary Beth Klinger’s Principles of Management course last spring. The students took on the Southern Maryland Social Entrepreneurship Challenge, spending a semester forming teams to pinpoint the region’s problems and innovating their potential solutions.
