Cap’n Jack admits to “not knowing jack” about the weather, but that doesn’t stop him from passing along watermen lore and observations of weather indicators and winter weather impacts on the Chesapeake fisheries.

What began as a simple community effort in the late 1970s to protect the Patuxent River evolved into an epic, unprecedented five-year battle to force the Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Maryland to recognize and remedy the problems of the river.

Several organizations will present a six-part series of events focusing on the opioid epidemic. Known as the Opioid Learning Series, sponsors for the series include the St. Mary’s County Health Department, St. Mary’s County Library, Walden Behavioral Health, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
