Inmates Can Now Use Video Visitation
Family members and friends of inmates at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center have a new way to visit their loved ones, as the center has just unveiled a new ICSolutions Visitor video visitation system.
Citizens Have Chance to Voice Concerns
The St. Mary’s County commissioners will host their first public forum of the New Year at 6:30 pm Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, in their meeting room at the Chesapeake Building at 41770 Baldridge St. in Leonardtown.
Tobacco Cessation Classes Start Soon
The St. Mary’s County Health Department offers free tobacco cessation classes and the next round will begin soon. The classes are being promoted by the Tobacco Free Living Action Team, a part of the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, supported by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown.
CSM Changes Tuition Payment Policy
Changes to the College of Southern Maryland’s tuition payment policy have been announced. They are effective with the spring 2018 semester.

Storm Brings Snow, High Winds to Region
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 11 am today, Jan. 4, and a wind chill advisory is in effect until noon Friday, Jan. 5, for St. Mary’s County. Drivers are asked to stay off the roads as high winds continue to blow snow across roadways.
VEX Volunteers Needed for Events
VEX Robotics teams from all over the region will be competing this spring, and VEX volunteers are needed to help the competitions run smoothly. The Patuxent Partnership is helping the teams and sponsors search for volunteers.
Film Series Continues at SMHEC Jan. 11
The next film in the Global Cinema Series will be shown Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center. The film will start at 6:30 pm and will be introduced by Jim Bershon. Admission is free.

The future is bright for self-driving cars, but credible reports out of Finland show terrorist groups considering how autonomous vehicles can replace suicide bombers and conduct ramming attacks.
