SMECO Begins Board Election Process
The Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative Board of Directors appointed the 2021 Nominating Committee at its March meeting. The committee will meet in May to select candidates for the five board positions to be elected this year.
DoD Issues Report on Its Telework Practices
The Pentagon releases a new report on teleworking practices since the pandemic sent majority of employees to work from home. Among the findings: 47% of those responding said their productivity increased while working from home during the pandemic, 41% felt they were about as productive while teleworking as they were in the office, and nearly 12% felt their productivity slipped.

Hoyer: Eliminate Gender Pay Gap
Each year, the US marks the day it takes a woman, on average, to earn the same amount as a man who has been doing the same work if both had started on the first day of January. In 2021, Equal Pay Day fell on March 24.
Expect Mandatory Cyber-Breach Reporting
An executive order is anticipated that will require contractors to notify government customers in the event of a cybersecurity breach. Congressional legislation further intends to make breach notification requirements standard in government and in the private sector.
STEM-ING Virtual Kick-Off April 3
The Patuxent Partnership reminds interested middle school girls that the annual STEM-ING event is going virtual with a live kick-off at 1 pm April 3. The free event, consisting of workshops that can be done at home, will close April 24.
Math Competition Goes Virtual
Social distancing precautions took the 2021 MATHCOUNTS competition to a virtual platform. During the event held February 5-6, local middle schoolers enjoyed the fast-paced challenge testing their math skills.
737 MAX Returning to Service
Boeing intends to deliver most of the stored backlog of the 737 MAX by 2023. Deliveries resumed in December after a 22-month grounding; in February 130 MAXs recorded at least one flight.
