House OKs Its Version of Defense Budget
The US House has approved its version of the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, and also gave the OK to open an independent investigation of US failures in Afghanistan, require women to register for the draft, and change how the military prosecutes sex assault.
Redistricting Board Meetings Continue
St. Mary’s County Redistricting Board meetings continue through December and are held in Leonardtown. Five public hearings will be held in November.
Funds Awarded for Pax Gate 2 Crosswalk Project
The Defense Department awarded funds for a NAS Patuxent River and St. Mary’s County crosswalk project that includes a sidewalk extension linking Gate 2 to the existing sidewalk and crosswalk at Gate 1.

Navy Cutting 500 Mid-Atlantic Civilians
Navy budget cuts from Maine to Virginia include 300 civilians from Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic and 200 Navy Region Mid-Atlantic civilians, most from family services and Morale Welfare and Recreation.
