As COVID-19 Cases Rise, State Opens More Testing Sites
The Maryland Department of Health reports the number of coronavirus cases in the state has increased to 2,331. Reported cases in Southern Maryland: 27 in St. Mary’s County, 22 in Calvert County, and 69 in Charles County.
Evidence of Community Spread of Virus in St. Mary’s, Reports Health Dept.
The St. Mary’s County Health Department has confirmed additional positive cases of the novel coronavirus in county residents, bringing the total case count to 23. Additionally, there is now strong evidence of community spread of COVID-19 in St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s Park Use Limited
The Maryland Department of Health is reporting the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Maryland has increased to 1,660, as of 10:10 am March 31. Reported cases in Southern Maryland: 15 in St. Mary’s County, 15 in Calvert County, and 40 in Charles County.
Theater Group Honors Actors, Performances
The Newtowne Players celebrated the theater group’s 15th season with the Triple Notch Awards on March 14 at Olde Breton Inn in Leonardtown.
Hogan Issues Stay-at-Home Order
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has issued an executive order which institutes a stay-at-home order. Residents should only leave their homes for trips that are considered essential.
More Cases of COVID-19 in St. Mary’s; 2 at Vets Home
The St. Mary’s County Health Department has confirmed that two additional St. Mary’s residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. One is a man in his 50s whose method of exposure is likely international travel and another is a man in his 70s whose method of exposure is still being determined. The health department also reported that two residents at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home tested positive.
DNR Accepting Entries in Photo Contest
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is accepting entries for its annual photo contest. Photographers, novice or professional, can enter for the chance to win cash and other great prizes.
Newtowne Players Cancel Next Production
The Newtowne Players have announced that the spring production of “Almost, Maine” will not be performed.
New Date for Gelrud Memorial Golf Tourney
Three Oaks Center has rescheduled the Jack Gelrud Memorial Golf Tournament. This year the annual fundraiser will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020.
